Principal's Message

Dear Parents/Guardians and Students,

We at Lynwood Middle School want to welcome you to the new school year and the start of a new chapter in the LMS story.  Our staff has been tirelessly preparing for this moment. Please take a look at some updates below regarding our school site:

New Faces @ LMS

Please welcome the following staff members who have joined our team.  They have been working extremely hard in anticipation of the new year.

  • Dr. Naranjo, Assistant Principal
  • Ms. Lo, AVID Co-Coordinator & English
  • Mr. Baker, Lead Custodian
  • Ms. Collins, Special Ed
  • Ms. Ransom, Special Ed
  • Ms. Saucedo, Science
  • Mr. Valenzuela, PE

New Courses

In order to expand our access to STEM several of our teachers attended training over the summer.  As a result, students may now take App Creators, Flight and Space, Human Anatomy, and Magic of Electrons.  This is in addition to Design and Modeling, Robotics and Medical Detectives. In addition to these offerings, we will be using the STEAM trailer and our Innovation Room expand our student’s experiences with STEM.

Student Involvement

Providing an environment that allows students to belong to a part of the school is crucial.  We are very fortunate to have a wide variety of clubs on campus under ASB (Associated Student Body).  The following clubs were on site last year: ASB, Art, AVID, Green Club, and ROAR Journalism. Please inquire with Ms. Polk if you are interested in additional information about club participation.  Students may also participate in the BRIDGE Theater, Karate, the Movement, and Think Together programs. More information about these specific programs will be forthcoming.

Parent Participation

Studies have shown that parent involvement is one of the keys to a student’s success in school.  At LMS, we have a variety of ways our parents can support their child's academic growth. Some of the opportunities include:  School Site Council (SSC), English Learner Advisory Council (ELAC), Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS). Additionally, we have our Coffee with the Principal sessions on a monthly basis.  If you are interested, please contact Ms. Lydia Gomez (Community Liaison) at 310-884-3100. Finally, on Thursday, September 20th (5-7 PM), we will have our annual Back-to-School Night.  It will be followed by a Minimum Day on Friday, September 21st with students being dismissed @ 12:30 PM.

Our staff is very excited about the year and look forward to the memorable experiences on the horizon.

Thank you for making LMS a special place for all!

Mr. Terry - Principal
